York Musical Society (YMS), a large, thriving society of around 150 singers, is York’s longest-established choir. Directed by David Pipe, it performs major choral works from the classical repertoire at venues across York.
The high quality of its performances and the friendly community make YMS a popular music society to join as a singer, but you can also be a part of it by joining as a Friend of YMS.
Large-scale performances of choral works are expensive to mount; ticket sales and choir members’ subscriptions go a long way but do not meet the total cost of concerts. The continuation of this York cultural institution relies on the generosity and enthusiasm of a wide range of contributors.
Who are the Friends of YMS?
Friends of YMS are people who value the musical life of York and its region and want to encourage it. Some have a connection to YMS which they wish to continue and enhance.
Friends of YMS are genuine friends of the choir and we greatly value the financial and practical support and encouragement they give.
